An adventure experience you will remember forever

Of course, gappers are motivated by a desire to help others, but it is also important to have fun. We will do our best to make this your holiday of a lifetime.

We have arranged some fantastic excursions as part of your trip, some are included in the price you pay and some are optional extras. The details are shown in the right hand column.

White Water Rafting

The white water rafting was great fun, and it helps bring the group together early.

At the beginning of the Trip to get to know each other and for generally awesome day we will go White Water Rafting in Jinja. We will be Rafting on the might "White Nile" on rapids varying between Grades 1-5. The Rafting is pretty extreme at times as Grade 5 is the highest Grade of Rapid that tourist can go down. Often the boats flip but the company that run the rafting use support rafts & kayaks to ensure everyone stays safe. Anyone that doest like the look of a rapid can walk round and get on after it. This is nothing to be ashamed of as they have names like "the Silverback" for a reason. We will do a full day and then have a buffet and drinks at the rafters lodge overlooking the longest river in the world, the Nile.

Rafting is included in the Safari package and optional in the Adventure package

Rafting is run by a New Zealand company with an exemplary safety record.

Camp life

The camp is situated in a picturesque setting on a hill side overlooking the stunning Bwindi Impenetrable forest. The views in the evening are quite remarkable and the air is so peaceful around the forest. As we are so close to the forest, it is not unusual to spot a baboon or two, cheekily playing in the bush.

When gappers are not teaching or out on a safari they can relax at the camp and have some downtime. The camp is has comfortable seating and lounging areas where you can unwind and read a book. There is a pool table and darts board for chilling out, along with a small area for watching DVD's.

Our camp manager lives in the camp and our driver and 4x4 are on hand to take gappers to the nearby town on some evenings.

Bwindi Rainforest

Gappers will also spend a day taking a walk through the Bwindi rainforest with a local guide showing us the wildlife.

Mountain Gorilla Tracking

This optional expedition is perhaps the most amazing local opportunity.

Mountain Gorillas are one of the most endangered species on the planet with numbers in 2006 very low at six hundred. Half of these gorillas live in Bwindi. Uganda and Rwanda are the two places in the world where a very limited number of tourists can have the opportunity to visit them in the wild. Permits in both Uganda and Rwanda cost 500 hundred US dollars. If it weren't for this money Bwindi impenetrable forest would not be left so undisturbed and the last refuge of the mountain gorillas would be lost forever.

There are 3 troops of the gorillas that are regularly tracked and getting close to the them is more or less guaranteed. Usually groups will spend an hour in very close proximity of them (a few meters.) It is not dangerous and they are very peaceful creatures not the vicious King Kong's that Hollywood cinema suggests. To go Gorilla tracking really is a once in a lifetime opportunity and if you are interested in wildlife this is the pinnacle of it anywhere in the world
